Exchange of international expertise in policy for people with disabilities and measures to bring the legislation of the Republic of Bulgaria in accordance with the provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

On 11 November CHRDRI started an international seminar on "UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Action Plan for its implementation" During the two-day event the measures that Bulgaria is taking to bring the legislation of the country in accordance to the provisions of the UN Convention on the policy for people with disabilities will be discussed. The meeting was opened by the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Policy of Bulgaria - Mr. Lazar Lazarov, who expressed hope that the participation of representatives of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal Republic of Austria is a key prerequisite for the realization of a qualified expert exchange of experience in the field of policy for people with disabilities. To support the successful implementation of the seminar Mr. Angel Velitchkov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria also took part.

The program started with a presentation by international guests - Mr. Wolfram Giese , an employee in the "Implementation of the UN Convention Coordination Unit, National Action Plan" from Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Policy of the Federal Republic of Germany and Mr. Andreas Reinalter, Deputy Head of Department "Rights of People with Disabilities and Political, European and International Disability issues" of the Federal Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection of the Federal Republic of Austria.

47 specialists and experts from the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Economy and Energetics, various non-governmental organizations involved in the topic participated in the seminar.

The seminar was supported by project "Support to MLSP of the Republic of Bulgaria for HRD in Southeast European Countries."
